Summer of Surf 2026 – holiday fun with real surf lifeguards

After more than a decade of hugely popular seasons, Summer of Surf is back for January 2026, building on rave reviews from tamariki and their whānau and shaping up to be better than ever. Run by fully qualified surf lifeguards at Waihī Beach, it is a beach-based holiday programme with a difference, with days built around the surf, the sand and the bush-clad hills right on our doorstep.

For just $15 per day, tamariki aged 7–14 spend the day outdoors learning surf skills and water safety, exploring nearby tracks, building confidence in the waves, and enjoying fun, structured activities with friends. No experience is needed; coaches match activities to each child’s ability so everyone feels safe and included.

Dates: 5–23 January 2026

Time: 9 am – 2 pm, Monday to Friday

Location: Waihī Beach Lifeguard Services Inc., 2 Beach Rd

Cost: $15 per child, per day, generously subsidised by Sport Bay of Plenty
